The logo itself was found in data alongside the Public Test Realm data for the Classic era servers. While players expected World of Warcraft to launch Wrath of the Lich King Classic eventually, this discovery has dispelled any lingering doubts.

The Wrath of the Lich King logo was discovered just weeks after Blizzard sent a survey to its community inquiring about the frigid expansion, and how likely they would be to play it. The survey also asked about faction balance in play, leading some to wonder if World of Warcraft might add the cross-faction play coming in Patch 9.2.5 to the Classic servers as well.
World of Warcraft is preparing to announce its ninth expansion pack on April 19th. Many players believe Blizzard may announce Wrath of the Lich King Classic in tandem with the expansion announcement. It has been less than a year since Burning Crusade Classic was released, and there was a 2-year gap between it and WoW Classic. If Wrath of the Lich King Classic were to launch sometime this year, it could signal a much faster cycle for Classic expansion re-releases.
World of Warcraft fans hope Wrath of the Lich King Classic could be on the way. Wrath of the Lich King is one of the most beloved World of Warcraft expansions as it closed many plot threads from Warcraft 3. Arthas is one of the most recognizable and popular villains in Warcraft history, and revisiting the atmospheric continent of Northrend could be a boon for the declining population of Classic WoW.
Of course, many World of Warcraft players are bored with Classic. While Classic was originally released for fans to experience the WoW of a previous, nostalgic era, Blizzard is simply rehashing content at the end of the day. Many fans are wondering what WoW will do when it runs out of content to put into Classic, especially if the cycle speeds up. However, for the time being, the venerable MMORPG has plenty of content to revisit, and as long as Warcraft players enjoy it, Blizzard will likely keep Classic up and running.
World of Warcraft Classic is available now on PC.
