ConservationOfWumbo, also known as EthanolMaps, is a World of Warcraft fan who has gotten no small amount of fame through his extensive collection of Classic WoW-style world maps of various states. A few days ago, fans received a glimpse at how he is progressing on his project.

The most recent endeavor of ConservationOfWumbo’s ongoing project is the states of Arkansas, Colorado, Indiana, and Ohio. Each of the states features its major cities, highways, and landmarks rendered as major locations, as if on an in-game World of Warcraft map. The maps, made in Adobe Photoshop, perfectly mimic the iconic style of WoW and look as if they could be pulled straight from the game. Perhaps the best flavor detail from these maps is the Devilsaur Monument in northwestern Colorado: ConservationOfWumbo’s Azerothean take on the Dinosaur National Monument on the border of Colorado and Utah.

So far, ConservationOfWumbo has made exceptional progress on his quest, mapping out 28 of the 50 states so far. He briefly took a break from his state quest to make a WoW-style map of Skyrim and New York City, but he has hit the ground running. With only 22 states remaining, ConservationOfWumbo might even finish them all before the end of the year. All of ConservationOfWumbo’s maps can be purchased as posters, postcards, or on canvas via his Etsy, EthanolMaps.

World of Warcraft fans are always excited to see ConservationOfWumbo’s work. Each time he posts his work, ConservationOfWumbo gets more and more fans, with these states attracting almost 150 comments in just a few days. With over 1,000 sales on his Etsy, it is no exaggeration to say he is one of the most established custom World of Warcraft-style mapmakers out there.

But he is not the only one. There are several other artists who have made other countries and regions on Earth into World of Warcraft zones. Winston-91, Nomadichedgehog, and Spoon have created maps of various European nations, with Spoon even having made a map of Australia in the style of Burning Crusade’s map of Outland. Perhaps if all of these artists piece their works together, World of Warcraft fans will eventually have an Azeroth-style world map of the entire planet.

World of Warcraft is available now on PC.
