Ten teams are competing in Edmonton starting on Tuesday, Aug. 9 with some of the best U20 players in the world set to hit the ice at Rogers Place.
The countries have gone through selection camps, preparing for weeks for the World Juniors action. The rosters have all been finalized, with each team selecting 25 players to wear their country’s colors.
There are some big names missing from the tournament that were a part of the original rosters in December. For Canada, Owen Power, Shane Wright, Kaiden Guhle are among the names that will not be in Edmonton for the restarted competition.
Team USA will be without three of its best players in Jake Sanderson, Matty Beniers and Drew Commesso.
Looking at the European squads, Sweden will compete without the likes of William Eklund and Alexander Holtz, Slovakia won’t have any of Juraj Slafkovsky, Simon Nemec, Filip Mesar or Martin Chromiak, and Austria and Switzerland will be without arguably their best players in Marco Kasper and Lian Bichsel respectively.
