Each nation at the tournament was allowed to name a 26-player squad this time around — three more than usual due to the impacts of COVID and a packed schedule.

Despite the increase, some tough calls still needed to be made by coaches when it came to names they pick and leave out of their teams, with choices needing to be made about experience vs. young talent and enthusiasm.

The Sporting News kept track of every World Cup squad as they were announced with the full rosters and information listed below.

Caps and stats for all players listed were up to date prior to Qatar 2022 starting.

When did teams announce their World Cup squads?

Nations had until a November 14 deadline to submit their final 26-player squad to FIFA for the 2022 World Cup.

A number of teams were announced prior to that deadline with their announcement dates listed below.

Can teams replace players in World Cup squads?

Once the final 26-man roster is official, participating teams at the World Cup can only make changes before the first game of the tournament, and only in the case of extraordinary circumstances.

According to the official tournament rules, “a player listed on the final list may only be replaced in the event of serious injury or illness up until 24 hours before the start of his team’s first match.”

The team in question would need to submit a medical report to FIFA and if the world governing body determines “the injury or illness is sufficiently serious to prevent the player from taking part in the FIFA World Cup” then the replacement will be allowed.

The replacement player must come from the preliminary list of players submitted to FIFA in October.

Multiple teams were forced to make last-minute alterations to their squads due to injury.
